New Years Resolutions

Do you make them? Now I may be grumpy but I hate them. I hate the adverts for foreign holidays and weight loss groups which make the dark days of January even darker. I hate all of those crash diets and pledges of sobriety plastered all over social media.

This year, why not look at things differently?

Why not resolve to learn a new skill, make time for mindfulness or pledge to get out in nature? In other words, make a resolution to reward yourself instead of punishing yourself. Mental health is something that’s really important to me, as I will explain another time, so why not resolve to protect or improve it? Instead of setting yourself up to fail by limiting yourself to 500 calories a day, set yourself up to succeed.

If you’re looking for inspiration these may help :

  • Learn to knit / crochet / cross stitch

  • Get out in nature once a week

  • Make a regular date with friends

  • Join a yoga class (or watch a YouTube tutorial if you’re shy)

  • Paint- the walls, a canvas, anything!

  • Pledge your time- volunteer, spend time with an elderly relative or neighbour for example

  • Read one book a month

  • Learn to draw or zentangle ( I’ll be showing you how in later blogs)

The options are endless. January is depressing enough without the pressure of unsustainable resolutions so this year, don’t follow the crowds; Do something for yourself

Here is to health and happiness in 2022.
