New Year, New Ideas

I don’t know about you but this week has felt like a lifetime. In the Zen Zebra house we’ve had New Year, tonsillitis, returns to school and returns to day jobs. Amidst all this, I’ve been making some business decisions so you’ll be starting to see some changes on the website soon.

When I first started making handmade cards I bought card blanks from the high street and

after that my choices were based on cost and quantity. This week I decided to swap to cards and envelopes which are made from 100% recycled material from an FSC certified supplier. It’s a big decision and not just in terms of cost; the change in card stock means that a lot of my older designs will now be obsolete and the website that took a lot of effort to build will need to re-built and will look pretty empty for a while while I create new designs.

So why bother? It’s simple: every little positive change makes a difference. Every handmade card will be 100% recycled and recyclable, the clear display bags are compostable and all stickers are gradually being replaced with recyclable ones. You’ll have to forgive me if I re-use packaging from other suppliers but why not? It’s what’s inside that counts! And when my current supply of packaging runs out, I’ve got some mailing envelopes made from recycled material ready to go.

On top of this, I’ve chosen 7x5” cards which can easily be framed as keepsakes or given as gifts- a fab way to reuse your cards. Whilst I like square cards, I did have a lot of people who struggled to find suitable frames for theirs.

So for a while the choice of stock may be limited but I hope you will love the new cards and designs as much as I do. There will be more opportunities to personalise your cards and I aim to create cards that are truly special and different to those you’d find in the supermarket. While the website is being updated, please feel free to contact me if you can’t see the card you want or if you’d like me to make something bespoke for you.

As always, you support means the world to me.
